WIDE AREA NETWORK-Another brick on Customs Automation
As part of Customs Modernization, Department of customs has implemented a Wide Area Network (WAN) which is operational from 7th Kartik 2067. This will enhance the use of Automatic System of Customs Data (ASYCUDA) by allowing exchange of data between the Department of Customs (DOC) and Customs offices.
The WAN is implemented to provide a means for Department of Customs to consolidate data from automated customs offices at central level on a regular basis. The Department of Customs (DoC) has connected, its 6 major district offices namely Mechi , Biratnagar , Birgunj , Dryport , TIA and Bhairahwa customs through its own wide area network. Department is effectively utilizing the WAN infrastructure and Live Monitoring the customs declaration through ASYCUDA. Department has formed a team of customs experts under the Inspection and Monitoring Section for the live monitoring of the declarations. The effectiveness of the WAN operation and Live Monitoring is well justified by the Live Monitoring team, when additional revenue was collected.
Department has planned to extend the WAN to Tatopani , Krishnanagar and Nepalgunj customs in near future.
